Our ambition is to develop young people who are inquisitive and receptive to finding the value in a variety of art produced by a diverse range of artists from different eras; applying to their own work an assortment of artistic techniques from around the world. We are committed to fuelling a passion in young people to explore the work of others and be able to interpret the visual language of art, articulating their own perspectives with ever-developing knowledge and confidence. Through the art curriculum, students’ natural curiosity about the world in which we live is fuelled, delving deeply into the creation of art for different purposes and exploring how cultural, historical, current and societal influences play a crucial role in this. Our students are resilient, creative thinkers who can express their personal voice and artistic intellect succinctly, respectfully and purposefully; whilst demonstrating their increasingly profound and complex understanding of not only art, but also their emotions, promoting deeper thinking and creative skills. They capitalise on opportunities to expand and master their skills, practising and refining their techniques, inspiring them to be playful, inventive and self-expressive.

Our Art curriculum has been designed to enable our learners to:

  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas through a range of different mediums and techniques.
  • Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and other art, craft and design techniques.
  • Evaluate and analyse their own work and the work of others as well as forming their own opinions and articulating their thoughts and ideas using the language of art, craft and design.
  • Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
  • Develop the skills to research artists and discover their stories and the meaning behind their work.
