  • Online Careers Events for Students and their Families

A reminder of our school finish times:

Years 7, 8 and 9 

  • Children finish at 2:45pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
  • Children finish at 3:45pm on Tuesday only

Years 10, 11, 12 and 13

  • Children finish at 2:45pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Children finish at 3:45pm on Tuesday and Thursday

DURING SCHOOL:

  • Friday 20 September - Individual School Photos - for Years 7, 11, and 12
  • Thursday 26 September - Careers Speakers - external speakers come in to speak with Year 11, 12 and 13 students
  • Monday 21 October - Flu Vaccinations - details to follow

AFTER SCHOOL:

  • Tuesday 24 September - YEAR 6 OPEN EVENING (6-8pm) - Sign up on WEBSITE!
  • Thursday 26 September - Year 11 Careers Evening (4-6pm) - Organised by Mrs Barrett (Careers), this event provides guidance about steps for applying for college, apprenticeships etc. Colleges and apprenticeship providers are also available for parents to speak to. 
  • Tuesday 8 October - NFS Sixth Form OPEN EVENING (6-7:30pm) - Sign up on WEBSITE!
  • Friday 25 October - SEND Support Coffee Morning (9-10am) - Details coming soon!

We are holding a year 11 careers evening on Thursday 26 September at 5pm for year 11 parents and carers. 

The aim is to equip you with the necessary information to support your child in making plans for after their GCSEs.   

The evening will run as follows: 

  • From 4pm – Market place style fair with opportunity to speak with representatives from Nottingham College, Army, RAF, NHS (tbc), local apprenticeship providers (Ideagen, Traindup) 
  • 5pm - NFS Presentation: post-16 options, when to apply for courses or apprenticeships, which courses are appropriate for your child, open days at colleges, Unifrog, personal guidance given in school. 
  • 5:30 pm - Option to listen to a general presentation about different types of apprenticeships from ASK. 
  • 6pm – Finish

We have been contacted by The AIM Group who deliver Free Online Level 2 Accredited Courses to help better understand some key issues around young people's mental health and wellbeing, along with a range of other qualifications that may help with developing your own careers.

Here's some of the most popular subjects available:

Neuroscience in the Early Years - Children and Young Peoples Mental Health - Understanding Autism - Specific Learning Difficulties - Nutrition and Health - Adverse Childhood Experiences - Bullying in Children and Young People - Distressed Behaviour in Children - Mental Health Awareness - Counselling - Team Leading - Business Administration - Customer Service - Safeguarding and Prevent - Functional Skills English & Maths

These are just the popular qualifications, but they have over 30 available!

The qualifications are completed within a 6–12 week period at your own leisure. They are equivalent to a GCSE Grade 4. You can do as many as you like, however you can only do one at a time.

The only criteria you must meet to be eligible, is: 

  • Aged 19 or over on or before 31st August 2024
  • Have lived in the UK/EU for 3+ years    
  • Not already on a Government funded course

Career Days give students an insight into different careers that might appeal to them, advice on subject choices and how to apply to university, followed by work experience in the afternoon to help them see what the career may be like. Students receive a certificate confirming their work experience.

Students who are aged 13-18 can register to join the online days by visiting www.careerdays.co.uk

  • Performing Arts Career Day - Sunday 27th October 2024
  • Law Career Day - Saturday 2nd November 2024
  • Vet Career Day - Saturday 9th November 2024
  • Computer Science Career Day - Saturday 23rd November 2024
  • Engineering & Technology Career Day - Saturday 30th November 2024

Students can visit www.careerdays.co.uk to join a session that interests them and will receive a certificate at the end of the day confirming their work experience.

  • As pre-teens become more independent with their move to secondary school, they become more confident internet users with more varied habits. The internet offers them many benefits, so it’s vital to discuss online safety regularly. 
  • Internet Matters.org provides guidance for parents and carers in how to support their child.  Please follow link which will take you to the website but please click advice by age and there is advice according to the age of your child.

Monitoring Your Child's TikTok Account

  • A reminder to be regularly checking your child's TikTok account, for content that might harm their well-being
  • Our school has been made aware of an account named Smart Schoolboy9/David London, which is causing children distress
    • The NFS Safeguarding Team has reported this account to TikTok
